Here's a cool app to entertain any audience with a popular game you can customize to make it fun and relevant to your theme, subject matter or group event.
One host, three contestants and (optional) a master of ceremonies
The game can be played with as many as three contestants, and larger groups can be divided into three teams.. Each contestant's name or team name is displayed on the Jeopardy game board with scores added or subtracted for correct or incorrect responses and displayed on the board for all to see,
Fully programmed; just enter your answers & questions
The app includes Answer and Question lists that are easily entered with spell checking and instant visual confirmation that the sentence fits within the designated "square" on the game board.
Includes all instructions for easy game setup & preparation
Create your own degree of difficulty assigning points corresponding to the easier and more difficult items on the game board.. Easily view your answers and questions as a numerical list for each round or as a grid that corresponds to the game board arrangement..
Use repeatedly - create unlimited Jeopardy games
The database holds each "game" as a distinct record consisting of 30 answers and questions for each of the first two rounds. You can keep an unlimited number of game records in the database for repeat use, assigning a name to each one for easy reference.
Supports Windows or Macintosh for Host
Any Macintosh or Windows desktop or laptop computer equipped with FileMaker Pro software can operate as the Jeopardy Host. Claris FileMaker version 21 or higher is recommended. Typical FileMaker security allows the game Hosts to manage their own login accounts and passwords., with all the permissions necessary to organize game records and create printouts.
Contestants use iPhones as "Buzzers"
As many as three contestants need neither accounts nor passwords to sign-in with iPhones of all sizes. The first contestant to use a buzzer is recognized to guess the question corresponding to the answer shown on the game board. Contestants who press their buzzer too late are alerted accordingly. For best performance, contestants are reminded to prevent iPhones from "sleeping" during the game and keeping volume level high enough to be heard by the audience.
Optional iPad and printouts for Master of Ceremonies and/or Judge
If desired, any size iPad can be used by the Master of Ceremonies to entertain the audience. By enabling portable use of a handheld game board, the MC can announce each of the answers when they are chosen by a contestant. When the M.C. taps the chosen square the answer and its corresponding question are revealed on the iPad screen for nobody else to see.. Anyone participating as a Judge can also use an iPad. As an alternative, a list of the answers & questions for each game can be printed and shared with the appointed Judge before the game begins.
Project the host's computer on a large video display
Use Apple AirPlay, HDMI connections, or any compatible method to project the Jeopardy game board from the host's Macintosh or Windows computer onto a large flat-panel display or with a projector to make the game visible to the entire audience.. Changes made on the game board and the scores for each contestant are "mirrored" in real-time as they occur.
Play 3 rounds: Jeopardy, Double Jeopardy and Final Jeopardy
In both the first and second rounds of Jeopardy, you'll find 6 categories with 5 squares under each category heading, for a total of 30 answers and questions. In the Jeopardy round, the points range from 10-50 while in the Double Jeopardy round, the points range from 20 to 100. However, these point designations simply exist to match the familiar numbers shown on the popular TV game show and you can specify any range of points, even different ones in each category.
You can make use of two special FileMaker layouts for the entry of your points for each round and the corresponding answers and questions. In one layout, the arrangement is a grid that matches the way the game board is arranged. In the other layout, the text is shown beside your entries in the actual size and color of the font on the game board to insure that your questions and answers are not too lengthy to fit properly in each square.
Because the Jeopardy game is not broadcast on live television, there are no time constraints. You can play as many squares in each of the first 2 rounds as possible within a time period of your choice, or complete the entire board. A special feature enables the host to reveal to the audience the answers and questions for any un-played squares.
For the Final Jeopardy round, each contestant will rotate their iPhones 90 degrees to a lateral view that enables handwritten entry of each contestant's guess of the correct response … in the form of a question, of course!
Daily Double and Wagering
There is one Daily Double square hidden in the game board for the Jeopardy round and two Daily Doubles on the Double Jeopardy game board.. When any of these 3 squares are selected, the contestant can enter their wager on their iPhone. The app is programmed to make sure that wagers cannot be made for more points than the contestant has earned.
Final Jeopardy wagers are made in the same lateral view that is used on the iPhones to handwrite the guess made for the Final Jeopardy question. The host can then reveal each contestant's guess, resulting in the arithmetic that determines the winner of the game.
